As a reloader, I can attest we all have different ways of accomplishing the same goals, great loads! The basics though are best learned and followed. As for basic reloading, I feel the .38 Special and .357 Magnum cartridges are the best reloads for the budget. Powder goes farther and if you cast your own projectiles, well you are even farther ahead of the horribly inflated priced commercial ammunition.
The .44 Magnum is a close second with a lot more powerful if you are a big game hunter or just love a bigger boom! Straight walled cartridges load easy and have a long case life for reloading.
