THERMACELL REVIEW: GEN 2 RADIUS ZONE MOSQUITO REPELLENT

Are the skeeters getting the best of you this summer?

The good folks at Thermacell have you covered.

I got a chance to test out the Thermacell Generation 2 Radius Zone Mosquito Repellent and this is how well it did.

The Classic Woodsman

With warmer weather and all the rain my area has been receiving the mosquitoes have become a big problem. You can spray oily substances on your skin or hide inside. Of course there is the Thermacell method of keeping these biting beasts at bay.

Previously I reviewed the first generation Thermacell Radius Zone Mosquito Repellent. What I found was a truly dependable unit that kept the biting hordes at bay. Well now there is a second generation version of the Radius that will set the bar even higher.

The Classic Woodsman

Supplied for this review was a Generation 2.0 Radius Zone Repeller, 1 12-hour refill, and 1 USB battery charger. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery and will run 6.5+ hours on a single charge. It can operate while charging. That is handy when you are at the campsite or anywhere a portable charging unit is available.  Full charges take 5 hours and you are ready to go cord free. On the move? The Radius Zone Generation 2.0 is TSA compliant for air travel and highly portable. It also operates consistently at any elevation. Power it on with a simple push button. It will repel mosquitoes for up to 40 hours per refill (with the 40 hour refill). My test unit was supplied with a 12 hour refill. The unit protects a 110 square foot area. The Radius Zone 2.0 locks for travel, has optional automatic shut-off timer (after 2 hrs) and can operate continuously.

So how does it actually work? This scent free skeeter scooter will keep them at bay. I fired it up while sitting in a heavily bug infested swamp during this rainy early summer. Turning on the unit within minutes I could see the mosquitoes were staying out of the exclusion zone. When I walked out of that Radius Zone protected area the mosquitoes found me quickly. Back in the protected area I went in short order. I also was quite happy that the small biting flies and gnats did not seem to like the Radius Zone either. During the whole time of testing I did not detect any scents. This is extremely important for hunters and wildlife watchers. If they smell you, the game is over.

In summary like all of the Thermacell products I have tested the Radius Zone 2.0 works flawlessly. If you are going to be in a high insect density area set up this unit and the biting bugs disappear. Figure it is your magic talisman for good fortune away from mosquitoes and other biting insects. Be sure to head over to the Thermacell website to see the Radius Zone 2.0 and also the other great insect repelling units available.
