Here’s what I thought of the Excalibur Food Dehydrator.
Now is the time of harvest. The big question is how will you preserve your bounty?
In this post, I will reveal my thoughts in a full review of the Excalibur Food Dehydrator.
The great folks at Excalibur Food Dehydrators sent me over a model 3926T Excalibur Food Dehydrator for review. Out of the box, this all-black, heavy duty appliance is heads and tails above the competition. It’s important to point out off the bat that it is made in the good old USA. Instant points in my book.
Hunting season has mostly ended here, meaning meat is aplenty. Normally I’d freeze meat and vegetables, but that takes up space. If the freezer stops working, your food spoils.
I’ve already learned you are much better off drying your food in a Excalibur Food Dehydrator.
This awesome kitchen tool has the following great features:
- Nine-tray, 15 square foot capacity
- Plastic Trays measure 15″ x 15″
- 26 hour timer
- Adjustable Thermostat 105°F to 165°F
- 7” fan, 600watts for increased air circulation
- Includes Guide to Dehydration (value $6.95)
- Limited 10-year warranty
Since this is the perfect time to prepare food stuffs for the winter, the dried goods from the Excalibur are proving its value almost instantly. The food takes up little room and is going to last much longer than frozen items lost in the freezer. The helpful guide that comes with the dehydrator is loaded full of recipes and helpful hints. Excalibur’s website also has an absolute plethora of recipes that are easy to do at home with your dehydrator.
My wife and I used recipes available from Excalibur (and some of our own) for this review. We sliced tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, beans and also venison.
The venison became delectable jerky that is now ready for a snack at home or on the trail. We also made banana peanut butter fruit leather and apple leather (which turned out like a true organic fruit roll-up).
Below, sealed up in jars, are just a few of the subjects that were put through the Excalibur Food Dehydrator.
Slicing up the tomatoes with a mandolin slicer made the job easy. All the cuts are equal that way, and drying time will be the same for all of of the food items.
The temperature and timer settings offer a wide range; you can dry anything from vegetables to meats. If you can find or dream up a recipe, the Excalibur Food Dehydrator is ready to make it a reality.
Clean up is really simple, too. The plastic mesh can be removed from the drawers for easy cleaning. Plus, the Excalibur Food Dehydrator is surprisingly quiet. You just set the temperature and timer, and it does its job.
Who would be a good candidate to buy an Excalibur Food Dehydrator? I’d say homesteaders, hunters, gardeners, survivalists, preppers, hikers, campers, along with anyone else who wants to preserve food the easiest and most useful way ever devised.
It is certainly a life changing appliance that will help you keep your harvests for future meals. After you prepare the food, all you need to do is keep it dry.
Remember, dried food that’s found in Egyptian pyramids is, in some cases, still viable to this day. That is certainly proof this is the best way to preserve food.
Now is the time to step up to an Excalibur Food Dehydrator. Save that hard earned harvest and check out the whole dehydrator product line at Excalibur’s website.
